THE SLOW TRAIN by Glenn Goring
Because the action moves so slowly we are given the opportunity to observe the characters as if under a microscope. We are able to scrutinize their actions and perhaps secretly wonder about their destinies. Using many layers of sound I have tried to create an atmosphere that reflects, in the words of the writer Tom Saunders, ‘…the deep strangeness of the day to day’.
(Best enjoyed at high volume.)
Under the signs
Of the old town
The train comes
At the allotted time
Its future
Encumbered with present
Soon past
On burnished lines
By greetings and farewells
The journey is measured
Travellers come and go
Uncounted footfall
Uncounted dreams
Who will ever know?
